A qualifying Level 2 smart charger can:
  • Communicate with you, your vehicle and even APS. This makes it easier to charge your vehicle when energy costs are lowest and clean energy production is at its highest.
  • Charge your EV more than six times faster than a Level 1 charger.

An EV smart charger is connected to the internet which allows you to collect usage data, schedule charging when energy costs are lowest or clean energy production is highest on the grid and participate in APS programs to help shift usage during times of higher energy use.

If you are on a time-of-use rate plan, you can program an EV smart charger to charge your vehicle during off-peak hours when energy costs are lowest.

You can apply for the $250 rebate via the “Claim Rebate for a Past Purchase” button at APS Marketplace (allow one to two billing periods to see the rebate on your energy bill).

  1. You must be an APS residential customer and your EV smart charger must be installed in your home in APS service territory.
  2. Your EV smart charger must have been purchased with the last 12 months.
  3. Your EV smart charger must be new; refurbished or used EV smart chargers are not eligible.
  4. EV smart chargers must meet the following qualifications:
    • Level 2 charger (output from 3 kW to 20 kW)
    • Internet-connected smart charger
    • Energy Star certified
    • Must be able to connect and communicate with APS software

  • EV smart (networked) chargers provide you the ability to program your vehicle to charge when you want. If you are on a time-of-use rate plan, charging when energy costs are lowest during off-peak hours and when clean energy is more abundant on the grid, will help you save money.
  • A non-networked EV charger is not connected to the internet and therefore cannot be controlled remotely. Additionally, you are not able to program it to charge and take advantage of lower energy costs.

Yes, all qualifying EV smart chargers use a standard J1772 plug, which is compatible with all EVs on the road. (Tesla owners will need to utilize the adapter that is provided with their vehicle.)
