Your energy rate is based on the time of day and day of the week when you use energy; use less energy during on-peak hours, between 4pm-7pm weekdays, and charge your EV during overnight off-peak hours, between 11pm-5am weekdays to save. During the winter, super off-peak hours, 10am-3pm weekdays, are the best time to use energy.

Have an EV? You have options.

If you can avoid charging your EV during on-peak hours, from 4pm-7pm on weekdays, and manage your energy demand, consider the Time-of-Use 4pm-7pm Weekdays with Demand Charge plan. This plan has the lowest off-peak rates of any of our current plans.

Why is this plan right for me:
Customers who select this plan can manage their costs by using less energy during higher-cost on-peak hours between 4pm-7pm weekdays. Instead, they should shift energy use to lower-cost off-peak hours, before 4pm or after 7pm on weekdays, and charge their EV during overnight off-peak hours, 11pm-5am weekdays (excluding off-peak holidays). During the winter, the super off-peak hours, 10am-3pm weekdays (excluding off-peak holidays), are the best time to use energy. This plan could be a good fit if:

You can use less energy during higher-cost on-peak hours, or

You are willing to adjust when you use energy to save

Ways you could save money on this plan:
You can save money on this plan by using less energy during higher-cost on-peak hours, between 4pm–7pm weekdays. Use major appliances like the washer and dryer, dishwasher and pool pump during lower-cost off-peak hours, and charge your EV during overnight off-peak hours, between 11pm-5am weekdays.

Charge your EV when rates are even lower during overnight off-peak hours, 11pm-5am weekdays (excluding off-peak holidays).

  • Pool icon
Save even more in the winter months if you’re able to charge your EV or use other major appliances during super off-peak hours, 10am-3pm weekdays.
  • Dishes icon
Do your laundry and run your dishwasher and pool pump during off-peak hours: before 4pm or after 7pm on weekdays, or on weekends.
  • An educational graphic labeled 'Do' showing a timeline of optimal energy habits. Icons illustrate shifting standard major appliances—like the dishwasher and washer/dryer—to off-peak hours before 4 p.m. and after 7 p.m. Crucially, the graphic highlights charging electric vehicles (EVs) during the specialized overnight off-peak window from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays, when energy rates are lowest.

  • An educational graphic labeled 'Don't' showing expensive habits to avoid. It visualizes a dense cluster of multiple high-energy appliances—including the oven, microwave, TV, pool pump, and electric vehicles (EVs) depicted actively charging—all in use simultaneously during the 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on-peak window when energy rates are highest.

Here’s how this plan works:
On this plan, your monthly energy charge is based on the time of day and day of the week when you use energy. Rates are higher during on-peak hours, 4pm–7pm weekdays, but lower all other off-peak hours. Rates are even lower during overnight off-peak hours, between 11pm-5am weekdays; this is a good time to charge your EV.

In the winter months (Nov–Apr bills), you can save even more during super off-peak hours, 10am-3pm weekdays (excluding off-peak holidays); these hours offer the lowest off-peak energy rates available.

  • This plan has different rates for summer months (May–Oct bills) and winter months (Nov–Apr bills).
  • This plan also has off-peak energy rates on weekends and holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day/Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the Friday before will be off-peak. If it falls on a Sunday, the Monday after will be off-peak. In years when Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve fall on a weekday, they will also be off-peak holidays. (Weekends are always off-peak.)
  • After three months on this rate plan, you’ll be able to see a comparison of plan costs — and make sure you’re on your lowest-cost plan — by logging in to your online account.
