Frequently Asked Questions

PROGRAM INFORMATION, ELIGIBILITY AND ENROLLMENT

What is the PWReady program?

The PWReady program utilizes energy stored in Generac PWRcell batteries to help distribute power to the Arizona grid during times of peak energy use. By enrolling in the program, you can save up to $4,000 on the purchase of your PWRcell battery storage system.

Why is Generac offering the PWReady program?

Arizona faces some of the most extreme weather in the country. This weather, coupled with an increase in the state’s population, has created an increased demand for electricity. As a global leader in the energy technology sector, Generac is partnering with Arizona Public Service (APS) to provide savings on the purchase of a PWRcell battery storage system to APS customers who enroll in the PWReady program and allow their system to help meet peak energy demand.

Who can participate in the PWReady program?

The program is available to homeowners who meet the following conditions:

  • You are an APS residential customer.
  • You have a PWRcell battery storage system with at least 9kWh of capacity installed at your home.
  • Your PWRcell is connected to a reliable internet source (ethernet or cellular).
  • You do not operate critical life support equipment at the participating address.
  • You are not already enrolled in APS’ Residential Battery Pilot or Storage Rewards program.
  • You are not on an R-TECH or Critical Peak Pricing (CPP) rate plan. Note: if you are on one of these plans, but would like to switch to join the PWReady program, you can do so by contacting APS.

How do I enroll?

You can apply to participate in the program by clicking HERE to submit your application. Once you submit your application, a member of the Generac team will review and verify you meet all eligibility requirements. We will then notify you and your installer via email regarding your qualification for the program. Once you have been qualified, your installer will apply the $4,000 discount to your purchase. Then, once your installer has installed and registered your PWRcell system, you will receive an email confirming your enrollment.

How long does the PWReady program last?

The PWReady program has a maximum seven-year commitment, depending on when you enroll. The program is anticipated to end Dec. 31, 2029. Participating customers will be notified of any options for extension to the program term.

How will my data be used?

To confirm you are eligible to participate in the program, we need your name, home address, e-mail address, and APS account number. This data will be shared with Generac affiliates and subcontractors and with APS for purposes of implementing the program. You can read more about how we protect your data in Generac’s privacy policy.

Once I sign up, is my enrollment guaranteed?

Once you submit your application, a member of the Generac team will review and verify you meet all enrollment requirements.

Then, once your installer installs and registers your PWRcell system, you will receive an email confirming your enrollment.

Why was my application denied?

If your application was denied, it is most likely because you did not meet all the enrollment requirements. The most common reasons for this include:

  • You do not have a qualified PWRcell installation.
  • You are not an APS residential customer.
  • Your home contains critical life support equipment.

After I enroll, do I need to do anything to participate?

Once you receive confirmation that you are enrolled in the program, you do not need to take any action for the duration of the program. We will remotely set up your PWRcell and manage it during energy events.

PARTICIPATION IN ENERGY EVENTS

What is an energy event?

An energy event could result from one of these scenarios:

  • Energy use is high in Arizona or there has been loss of energy supply. During this period, we can distribute power to customers by discharging PWRcell batteries.
  • Energy being produced by solar panels and traditional generation is greater than the energy being consumed. These are known as low load conditions. During this period, APS will call an event, calling for your battery to charge from your on-site solar during select periods of the day to reduce this excess energy.
  • APS is testing other ways your battery can provide a service to the electrical grid.

Do I need to make changes to my energy use during an energy event?

No, you will not need to modify your energy use. The program will operate in the background and Generac will handle all program management.

On a typical day, your solar + battery system works to offset as much of your on-peak energy use as possible. If you participate in the program, we will reserve 20% of your battery for your use during an energy event. This means, we will not allow your battery reserve to dip below 20%.

If APS has not called an energy event after 5 p.m., the energy in your battery will shift to exclusively offsetting your energy use.

When do energy events occur?

An energy event may occur during any hour of the day on any day of the week. However, energy events that discharge the battery will occur most often from 3 to 8 p.m. Energy events calling for your battery to charge from your on-site solar will occur most often from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

What time of year will energy events occur?

An energy event can occur at any point throughout the year. However, energy events that discharge your battery are most common during the summer months, June through September. Energy events calling for your battery to charge from your on-site solar typically take place in the months of October through May.

How long will an energy event last?

A typical energy event lasts between 15 minutes and four hours.

How will I know if an energy event is occurring?

You will receive an email notification from Generac before an event begins, sent to the email address you provided through your program application. You may unsubscribe from receiving these event notifications at any time by following the instructions contained in your notification email.

Who is controlling my unit during an energy event?

Generac will control your battery remotely for the duration of the event. This could include charging or discharging the battery.

What happens to my system if there is an outage?

When a power outage occurs, your PWRcell system is designed to disconnect from the grid and begin powering your backup loads within a fraction of a second. This functionality will not be impacted by your participation in the Program. If there is a weather-related event that is expected to cause widespread outages, APS may elect to forego one or more energy events. Regardless, your PWRcell system will always reserve at least 20% of its usable capacity to provide power during an outage.

How do I opt out of participating in an energy event?

You can opt out of up to five energy events per year by replying to the email you receive prior to the event. If you opt out of more than five energy events, Generac reserves the right to remove you from the program, which would require that you pay the early termination fee associated with program unenrollment.

PROGRAM INCENTIVES

How will I be rewarded for participation?

As part of this program, you may be eligible to save up to $4,000 on purchase of your PWRcell.

Incentive payments vary depending on your PWRcell battery capacity, in accordance with the chart below.

PROGRAM UNENROLLMENT

How do I unenroll?

You can unenroll from the program by clicking HERE

Are there any penalties for unenrolling?

If you unenroll any time before your up to seven-year commitment has expired, or the program has terminated, whichever comes first, Generac will invoice you for a prorated share of the upfront incentive that was provided to you when you enrolled. The amount of the invoice will be determined as follows:

  • Number of months remaining in Term / Total number of months in Term * Upfront Incentive Amount = Invoice Amount for Early Termination
  • As a new service we’re providing to APS customers, we may email you a survey to understand your reason for unenrollment. Although not required, we strongly encourage participants to offer feedback. By understanding your experiences in the program, we can improve what we offer you and other customers in the future.
