Celebrate Earth Day through green energy efficiency with free Google Nest Thermostat

APS offers customers smart home tech from award-winning thermostat program

PHOENIX – This Earth Day, Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) customers can reduce their carbon footprint and manage their energy usage by switching to a smart energy thermostat. Back by popular demand, APS is once again offering residential customers a free ENERGY STAR®-certified Google Nest Thermostat valued at $129. Customers will pay only shipping costs and tax.

Residential customers can take advantage of this limited-time offer until May 14 by enrolling in APS Cool Rewards, a program that lowers their energy use by adjusting their thermostats a few degrees on hot summer days. Customers participating in the program have the flexibility to control their thermostat devices and can opt out of the program at any time.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently recognized APS with the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for excellence in customer energy efficiency programs. These programs help customers use less energy and shift their energy use to times of day when more clean power is available – actions that can benefit their wallet and the environment.

“Arizona truly is a beautiful place to call home, and at APS we are doing our part to protect the environment through smart conservation strategies,” said Daniel Haughton, APS Director of Customer to Grid Solutions. “APS customers will play an important role as we work to transition to a 100% clean and renewable energy mix by 2050. We are committed to making smart home products accessible to all customers so they can more easily make greener choices at home while saving money, too.”

APS customers who order a Google Nest Thermostat can benefit from several green-energy features:
  • Control from Anywhere: The Nest Thermostat is easy to control and program with the Google Home App. Customers can receive notifications from their thermostat right to their mobile device.
  • Quick Scheduling: Customers can set a custom temperature at different times and on different days. The Nest Thermostat also suggests pre-set temperatures to balance comfort and energy savings. Users can simply adjust settings with the Google Home app.
  • Energy Savings: The Nest Thermostat proactively suggests small tweaks to a user’s schedule to optimize savings, which can be accepted using the Google Home app. For example, it might suggest a small change to a user’s sleep temperature to help aid sleep while saving more on energy.
APS Cool Rewards, now with more than 36,000 thermostats enrolled, and APS Marketplace were among the programs recognized for innovation and customer service by the EPA. APS Marketplace is a one-stop online shop for smart energy products at competitive prices.
