APS CEO discusses Cholla conversion, reliability and Arizona’s energy future

APS President and CEO Ted Geisler recently joined The Mike Broomhead Show on KTAR 92.3 FM to discuss APS’s plans to convert two units at the Cholla Power Plant in northeastern Arizona from coal to natural gas — a project designed to support reliability for existing customers and Arizona’s continued growth.

During the interview, Geisler highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering reliable, affordable energy to customers, and how the proposed conversion would make use of existing infrastructure at the long-time power plant site. Transitioning the Cholla Power Plant would add approximately 380 megawatts of additional energy, which is enough to serve about 61,000 Arizona homes. Geisler also discussed the project’s potential economic impact and how a diverse energy mix helps APS meet customer needs.

The conversation underscored APS’s focus on customers: planning ahead, investing wisely and maintaining reliable service as Arizona’s energy needs evolve.
