Project need
New electrical infrastructure is needed to provide clean and reliable electric service to a new data center customer in the City of El Mirage and support the continuing economic growth and development in the West Valley.
Project description
We have completed our public siting process and have identified our preferred routes for these separate 230kV transmission connections, from the Contrail substation to locations shown on the map below, which was submitted as part of our application to the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC).
Approved Routes/CEC
A multi-day public hearing before the Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee was held during the week of February 28th, 2022, at the Glendale Civic Center, and received unanimous approval to grant APS a CEC of the preferred routes. The case for the approval of the CEC was later presented in an Open Meeting of the Arizona Corporation Commission on April 12, 2022, and received their vote of approval for the CEC.

Project features
This connection project will feature steel monopole (single pole) structures that are typically used for new 230kV transmission lines, but may include a variety of structure types, ranging in height from approximately 115 feet to 195 feet tall depending on routing, terrain and crossing of existing structures, including elevated roads and other power lines.
