Our clean energy goal: carbon-neutral by 2050.

As Arizona’s population and economy continue to grow at unprecedented levels, so does the state’s need for reliable electricity. As a result, we are updating our clean energy goal to an aspirational “carbon-neutral” approach by 2050.

We are committed to providing reliable power to customers at the lowest-cost possible while striving to lower carbon emissions over time. Our aspirational carbon-neutral approach means that, by 2050, for any greenhouse gas emissions still produced by our electricity generation resources, we aim to offset these emissions elsewhere. 

A balanced and diverse energy mix will power Arizona’s remarkable growth and help serve our customers with reliable and cost-effective electricity. Our diverse energy portfolio includes:

Clean, carbon-free energy from Palo Verde Generating Station – one of the largest nuclear plants and producers of clean energy in the country
Renewable resources, including solar energy paired with battery energy storage
Natural gas, which is critical to reliability and an important partner to the large quantity of renewable resources we’re adding to our system 
Energy efficiency and demand management programs that help customers reduce energy use

Arizona Electric Utilities Team Up To Explore Adding Nuclear Generation

Arizona Public Service (APS), Salt River Project (SRP) and Tucson Electric Power (TEP) announced today they’ll be working together to explore adding nuclear generation in Arizona.
