From presoaking your laundry to cleaning your dryer’s lint filter, we’ve got laundry tips to save you energy, money and help the environment.

wash full loads

For maximum efficiency, wash full loads of laundry or adjust the water level for smaller loads. Run your clothes through an additional washer spin cycle before putting them in the dryer. Better yet, line-dry them outside.

wash in cold water

Heating water accounts for up to 90% of the energy needed to run a washing machine. If everyone would wash their clothes in cold water, we could save approximately 30 million tons of carbon dioxide in the U.S. each year.

use an electric dryer

Electric dryers add less heat to your laundry room than gas dryers and help save on air conditioning costs. They’re also less expensive to buy and don’t produce combustion by-products to pollute the air in your home.
