arizona corporate council on veterans careers marks 2017 as "year of the veteran career"
PHOENIX More than a dozen Valley businesses are joining forces to make 2017 the “Year of the Veteran Career.” Led by APS and USAA, these businesses are coming together as the Arizona Corporate Council on Veterans Careers (AZCCVC) to support Arizonans in their transition from military service to civilian employment. The group’s second meeting will be January 20.

“Veterans bring valuable skills and experience to the work place that cannot be learned in a classroom,” said Rob Schaffer, General Manager, USAA Phoenix Campus. “Providing them with opportunities to help smooth their transition to a fulfilling civilian career is a win-win for everyone involved.”

Officially announced on November 3 by APS President and CEO Don Brandt, the AZCCVC is an inclusive group of Arizona’s key employers that seek to unify best practices and strategies directly related to providing meaningful career opportunities in support of veterans.  Their efforts will support the Arizona Roadmap to Veteran Employment, an initiative co-led by the Arizona Coalition for Military Families (ACMF) and the Arizona Department of Veteran’s Services.

“This council will allow Arizona businesses to take a holistic look at veteran hiring across the state,” said Hal Pittman, APS Director of External Communications and a retired Navy rear admiral. “We believe this organization can serve as a blueprint for how companies in other states can best support their servicemen and servicewomen transitioning into the civilian workforce.”

The council will meet throughout the year with the intent to make 2017 the “Year of the Veteran Career” in Arizona. Valley businesses are encouraged to join the council to help make Arizona amongst the friendliest states for veteran employment.
