aps introduces rebate program for smart thermostats
control your thermostat anywhere, anytime – and save money
PHOENIX – The apprehension that accompanies walking into a hot house at the end of a long summer workday can now be avoided with the purchase of a smart thermostat using APS’s rebate program. These internet-enabled thermostats fundamentally have changed how customers use their air conditioning systems. Automated features and the convenience to control a home’s temperature from anywhere provide customers with energy savings and increased flexibility.

Each qualifying smart thermostat installed and activated at an APS residential customer’s home is eligible for a rebate of $75. Eligible models, where they can be purchased, and information on the program can be found at aps.com/thermostat.

“Our customers want technology that makes their lives easier without breaking the bank,” said Jim Wontor, APS Manager of Demand Side Management. “Smart thermostats, which assist in managing energy usage for the air conditioner, the largest energy user in the home, can help customers become more energy efficient and save them money.”

These smart thermostats overcome the challenges of earlier programmable thermostats by using technology to automatically adjust settings, optimizing air conditioning use. They do this by learning customers' patterns over time. Studies show that smart thermostats can produce electricity savings ranging from 8 to 15 percent of the cooling and heating costs of a home.

“Smart thermostats are the type of cost-effective energy efficiency tool that help lower the demand for electricity during the times of the year when power use is at its peak,” said Wontor.

Businesses that install qualifying smart thermostats can receive a rebate of $60. More information on the rebate for business customers can be found at aps.com/betterbottomline.

APS serves about 2.7 million people in 11 of Arizona’s 15 counties, and is the Southwest’s foremost producer of clean safe and reliable electricity. Using a balanced energy mix that is nearly 50 percent carbon-free, APS has one of the country’s most substantial renewable energy portfolios, and owns and operates the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, the country’s top power producer and largest producer of carbon-free energy. The company is also a proven leader in introducing technology and services that offer customers choice and control over their energy consumption. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW).
