summer internship program

Our Summer Internship Program provides a meaningful experience for college students through a series of events and opportunities to connect with other interns in the program.

  • twelve-week paid summer internship
  • work on significant projects and gain real-world experience
  • opportunities at one of our AZ or NM power plants or phoenix metropolitan area corporate offices
  • networking opportunities with peers, hiring leaders, and executives
  • each intern is assigned a company mentor

internship qualifications
  • sophomore through Senior currently enrolled full-time (minimum of 6 credits/semester) at an accredited college or university
  • minimum 3.0 GPA
  • must show ongoing achievement in areas of study and training specific to functional area
  • willingness to relocate to AZ or NM

timeline to apply

rotational programs/legacy programs

We offer the following full-time rotational programs for recent graduates:

new engineers in operations(neo) program
    • The purpose of the new engineers in operations (neo) program is to increase the operational knowledge of new engineers in APS fossil generation. This is achieved by participating in a 21 month rotational training program that focuses on operational excellence including safety and environmental considerations. The rotations consist of 3 months at corporate head quarters (chq) and then 18 months at a power plant as part of an operations crew. The neo program will provide a firm foundation upon which to build a strong career at APS.

    transmission & distribution (t&d) rotational engineering program
    • Successful candidates will enjoy four 6-month assignments in various areas of the distribution, transmission and substation organizations to assist them in learning the functions of these areas.  After the two year rotational period, the candidate will be assigned to a department.
    • areas where assignments are possible include:
      • distribution, 69kV or transmission planning
      • distribution, transmission or substation design
      • protection, Metering and Automated Control
      • line or substation maintenance
      • inter connecting non-APS generation to APS’s system
      • distribution and transmission standards
      • distribution or transmission operating center

    accounting & finance rotational program
    • The APS Accounting & Finance organization is seeking a high performing entry-level professional who is looking for an opportunity to start their career while building a foundation of knowledge through a hands-on rotational experience.  This individual will spend approx. 18 months in the Accounting & Finance Rotation Program to build financial skills and acquaint themselves with Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and its main subsidiary, Arizona Public Service (APS).  This position requires a strong team player, who has excellent oral and written communication skills, and will assist in a variety of accounting and finance related assignments.  This competitive, highly selective full-time position will lead to permanent career placement upon successful completion of the program.  This individual will be based at our headquarters in downtown Phoenix with minimal travel required.

      • probability risk assessment  - 3 weeks
      • nuclear assurance  - 3 weeks
      • operations  - 4 weeks
    • placement
      • we place you in an engineering group after you complete the Legacy program, business needs and your preference.
    • your future at palo verde
      • we assign you a mentor for 1 year after you complete the Legacy program.
      • we encourage:
        • passing FE (fundamentals of engineering) exam/obtaining PE (professional Engineer) license
        • job rotations
        • continuing education/training
        • participation in employee network groups
        • community service and involvement
