sponsorship of a home

APS  has supported Habitat for Humanity through our Corporate Giving program since 1997. In 2012, we took it to the next level and became a “home sponsor” for the Arias family of Glendale.

Eighty-eight employees, friends and family members contributed more than 800 volunteer hours (approximately $17,000 of in-kind services), working alongside Norma and Basilio Arias to build a home for the couple and their three children. The family’s previous residence was a mold-infested apartment.

But in addition to building a home, the volunteers built a bond with the family.

“It was a great pleasure meeting the family,” said Sabrina Mauch of APS Billing Services, who volunteered more than 40 hours helping to frame, paint and landscape the house. “I know Basilio has a big heart and loves his family.”

At the dedication ceremony, Norma thanked the volunteers for helping her family realize their dream of home ownership “I will use your example to teach my children how to help others,” she said.

Daniel Froetscher, APS Vice President, Energy Delivery, who attended the ceremony, said there are a lot of great things about working for APS. “Being able to directly touch lives and seeing the appreciation of the people we are able to help, are among the most satisfying things we do.”

In addtion to building the Arias' home, APS contributed three shade trees, fully equipped the home with efficient CFL bulbs, and made an in-kind donation of CFLs to all Habitat for Humanity homes built in APS's service territory.

At the dedication ceremony, Norma thanked the volunteers for helping her family realize their dream of home ownership “I will use your example to teach my children how to help others,” she said.
