Solar energy is an important part of APS’s energy mix—which means your business is already benefiting from solar energy. If you want to add solar to your site, APS offers incentives for water heating on your electric water heater.  We also make it easy to interconnect a solar electric system to the APS grid.
harness the sun's energy
Take advantage of Arizona’s 300+ days of sunshine each year when you install solar panels. The best part? You’ll provide clean, renewable, affordable energy for your business.

Grid-tied systems allow you to draw energy from our grid when your system isn’t producing enough to meet your needs, and we make it easy to interconnect.

how solar panels work
  • rooftop panels contain silicon semiconductors that absorb sunlight and work even on cloudy days
  • DC current passes through the inverter and becomes AC current, the electricity used in your business
  • excess electricity produced flows to our grid and we credit your account

  • familiarize yourself with the resource documents APS provides, including sample drawings, interconnection checklists, and step-by-step guides for load or supply side taps, to name just a few
are solar panels right for your business?
do your homework
heat water with the sun
Solar water heaters are a cost-effective way for your business to take advantage of solar power. You’ll reduce your energy use and may even lower your peak usage and subsequent demand charges.

We’ll show you how easy it is to install a solar water heater in your business and how to apply for your incentive payment and tax credit.

Unlike other energy sources which may increase in cost over time, the sun’s energy is always free and renewable.

how solar water heaters work
  • rooftop solar collector absorbs sunlight and heats water
  • hot water is piped to a holding tank, ready to use
  • unused water circulates back through the system to keep hot
  • backup systems work at night to provide more hot water once solar-heated water in the tank is used
heat targeted areas
Solar space heaters use the sun’s energy to cost-effectively warm targeted areas of your business while lowering your energy cost. They’re easy to install and provide a clean, essentially cost-free source of warmth.

Solar space heating systems can handle an estimated 30 to70% of your space heating needs. Plus, your current system will provide back-up heat whenever needed so you’ll stay warm when you need to. We’ll show you how easy it is to apply for your incentive.

how solar space heaters work
Solar space heating systems can consist of passive systems, active systems or both.

  • passive systems absorb the sun’s warmth during the day and release warmth when it’s needed most
  • active systems have collectors that gather and absorb the sun’s heat and distribute that heat to specific parts of your business
chill out with the sun
Solar space cooling works effectively in Arizona’s large buildings including office buildings, hotels, manufacturing facilities, schools and hospitals. It uses the sun’s heat to power “heat-driven” air conditioners.

how solar space cooling works
Solar space cooling uses two distinct technologies

  • absorption cooling uses solar collectors to heat a liquid that’s condensed and evaporated to create a cooling effect
  • desiccant cooling uses a chemical drying agent on the air before introducing humidity, which evaporates and removes the heat
use the sun's light inside
Take advantage of the sun’s light to brighten areas of your building during the day while reflecting most of the sun’s heat.

how solar daylighting works
  • a solar collector gathers the sun’s light and directs it through a reflective tub on the roof
  • a diffuser spreads the light throughout the interior space

swim in comfort year-round
Use the sun’s energy as a cost-effective, environmentally conscientious way to heat your facility’s pool and make swimming a year-round luxury.

Solar pool heating systems are designed to drain back into the pool when the pump is off, providing freeze protection during cooler days. They can be installed as stand-alone systems or used with traditional electric or gas heating systems.

how solar pool heating works
  • water’s pumped through the pool’s existing filtration system
  • a solar collector transfers heat to the pumped water
