Arizona 2-1-1 Online is the State’s official resource that connects Arizonans with thousands of health and human services as well as important emergency updates. Arizona 2-1-1 is the first system of its kind in the nation to provide timely information during natural or human-caused emergencies and disasters, such as wildland fires, floods, water shortages and public health emergencies. Since going live in June, 2005, more than 200,000 Arizonans have used 2-1-1 to gather information, find services and get help.
During a disaster, multiple agencies have critical emergency information to share. This information is consolidated in bulletins posted on www.az211.gov, making it an effective one-stop shop for official emergency updates. Arizona 2-1-1 Online is also a valuable resource on how to prepare yourself, your home and your family for a disaster or community emergency. During state-declared emergencies, the public can dial 2-1-1 to connect with recorded information about the current event as well as talk to a live operator who will have access to the entire 2-1-1 Online database. During the Brins Fire in Sedona, in June, 2006 Arizonans and visitors interested in the current fire status, road closures, evacuations, shelter locations and donations were able to visit www.az211.gov or call the 2-1-1 Call Center for updated information. During that emergency, Arizona 2-1-1 Online received more than 38,000 visits and the Arizona 2-1-1 Call Center received more than 14,000 calls. Arizona 2-1-1 Online also provides the public with access to vital health and human service information with listings for more than 18,000 programs and services. The strategic plan for 2-1-1 calls for the phased implementation of a 2-1-1 information network. The next step for the program is to expand 2-1-1 call centers to be available for day-to-day health and human service inquiries as well as in times of state-declared emergencies. |
