Arizona's rapid growth has been good for its economy, but keeping that growth from overwhelming the state’s attractive lifestyle and natural wonders is a challenge. Arizona is addressing its growth issues with the recent passage of the Growing Smarter Acts which require communities to develop plans to manage their growth.
Planning, however, takes funding that a community and county governments often don’t have. To assist Arizona communities and counties with the development of their Growing Smarter plans, the Arizona Department of Commerce (ADOC) established the Growing Smarter Planning Grant Program. A total of $70,000 will be awarded by the Department of Commerce this December, with a maximum of $10,000 per recipient. APS has stepped forward as well, contributing $60,000 to the grants and providing representatives to help in the grant evaluation process.
"The Company and its employees supported the Growing Smarter initiative," said Jan Bennett, APS vice president Customer Service. "By providing additional financial support to Arizona communities, we are following our words with actions."
APS has been committed to the economic health of Arizona for years. The company designs economic development programs that focus on recruiting new business and industry to Arizona and help existing businesses expand through partnerships with local, regional and statewide economic development leaders.
Through its support of the Growing Smarter plans, APS is helping preserve the world-renowned attractions and lifestyle that have brought so many people to Arizona.
