From massive defensive linemen bursting into the backfield to tiny gymnasts vaulting themselves into the air, in athletics, power is vital. It is natural, then, that when Arizona State University Athletics was looking for a corporate partner, they immediately turned to APS – the "Official Power Source of Sun Devil Athletics."
As Arizona’s number one supplier of electrical energy, APS knows a thing or two about power and according to Heather Morris, director of marketing and promotions at ASU Athletics, the support APS provides is invaluable. "APS has been a tremendous supporter of Arizona State University and the athletic department. Their contributions and support for ASU have made an unbelievable difference for our student athletes and our fans."
According to APS Community Relations Manager Cindy Slick, the partnership makes a lot of sense. "In addition to supporting Sun Devil athletics directly, our relationship with ASU gives us a chance to go beyond the field and support the educational side of collegiate athletics."
The component that perhaps both partners are most excited about is the new APS Learning Center, where ASU students and student-athletes alike will have access to the latest technology, new computers and an excellent learning environment.
Greg Walaitis, ASU assistant athletic director of corporate sales and marketing says, "The APS Learning Center will ensure our student-athletes have a place specially designed to help them achieve academic success. APS is a company that believes in supporting local communities."
The APS/ASU partnership does not stop with the learning center though as APS sponsors and promotes a number of other ASU athletic, educational and fan-support programs, including:
- APS Scholar-Athlete Award
- Wings of Gold Banquet
- APS Customer Appreciation Night
- Girls and Women in Sport Week
- ASU Sports Schedule Cards
- ASU Women’s Athletics Market Support
- Sparky’s Kids to College Program
- APS Employment and Internship Opportunities for Student-Athletes
"Any time you sponsor education," said Slick. "You’re making a worthwhile investment. In addition to helping out the community, we’re developing our future workforce. ASU is one our top customers – we’re proud to be their choice and, in turn, to show our support." |
