In the near future, as the costs for Solar Technology is reduced, people will be able to generate their own electricity from the sun right at their home. Unfortunately today, it is still three to five times more costly to provide electricity from solar power than from traditional generating resources such as large power plants.
These mock rooftops are where APS tests future systems for people who already have access to power lines (they are grid-tied). There are significant technical issues that APS is helping resolve. As these systems become available, people can and will be able to safely, easily and cost effectively install PV systems on their home and generate at least a part of their own electricity from the sun.
