Each megamodule consists of concentrating lenses that focus the sunlight onto a very small photovoltaic cell. Each lens concentrates the sun 250 times. This allows a very small amount of PV material to be used to generate a large amount of electricity. This system converts about 18 percent of the sun's energy into electricity compared to about 10 percent for a standard PV panel.
Once testing is complete, these arrays will be the first of their kind to be put into commercial operation as part of the APS Solar Partner program®. Similar 25-kw arrays are featured at the Glendale Airport as phase two of the APS Solar Partner® power plant.
