APS operates more than 50 battery electric neighborhood vehicles in their fleet from passenger to utility model vehicles. The vehicles are used to support plant operations, security personnel, statewide community relations events and an employee carpool program in downtown Phoenix. The carpool program totaled more than 700 events during 2005. Total miles accumulated during 2005 for these vehicles were 49,889 miles. The average operating cost for these vehicles is approximately one cent per mile, and the average energy equivalent is 275 miles per gallon. The vehicles supported 49 community events and 21 holiday light parades during 2005 from Sunday on Central to the Fiesta of Lights Parade to the Komen Race for the Cure.
