Education for a Sustainable Future

APS is committed to creating a sustainable energy future for Arizona. These materials and activities are specifically developed for teachers to give their students the background they need to make wise, safe decisions about the use of electricity. With topics ranging from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and biomass; to energy conservation tips like keeping the refrigerator door closed; to the value of character education; these resources can help your students prepare themselves to be the future employees, community and business leaders, consumers and environmental stewards of our great state.

Professional Development

  • Lesson2Life
APS, the Arizona K-12 Center (www.azk12.org) and Motorola invites K-12 educators to experience the Arizona workplace with your own eyes; a program that helps bridge the gap between education and the business world.
  • In just a few experience-rich days, educators will gain a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective of various industries (such as hospitality, high tech, finance, non-profit, and agriculture) to gain insights on how to focus their instruction to create learning opportunities that best prepare their students for an ever-changing global economy.
  • Institute for Teaching
As a sponsor for the Arizona Science Center’s (ASC) Institute for Teaching, a variety of professional development opportunities are offered including the Back-to-School Resource Fair and Reception, educator memberships, field trips, and workshops. The Science Center (www.azscience.org) delivers effective, standards-driven programs designed to meet the ever-changing needs of today’s educators while supporting district, state, and federal mandates.
  • K-8 Workshops
APS is collaborating with The Center for Teacher Success (www.centerforteachersuccess.org) to underwrite a series of professional development workshops for K-8 teachers. The workshops focus on "real world" applications of scientific content while integrating other academic disciplines. The Center for Teacher Success then partners with Arizona educators to build the capacity of teachers, schools, and districts so that all K-12 students in Arizona public schools can achieve their full academic potential.
