About one-third of the renewable energy for the Community Power Project will be generated from the Doney Park Renewable Energy Site. The small solar photovoltaic (PV) power facility is located on 10 acres of land APS owns on east side of U.S. Highway 89 north of Swede Lane.
This 500 kilowatt facility consists of photovoltaic solar panels arranged in several rows on top of single-axis tracking supports. This design enables the solar panels to follow the sun across the sky, making the plant more efficient than static-mounted panels typically seen on rooftops. In addition to the solar facility, APS is planning to place small- to community-scale generation wind turbines and weather monitoring stations for study purposes.
