APS Safety Inspections

The Forestry and Special Programs department conducts safety inspections on APS transformers and wooden poles in the field which includes checking for:

Vegetation on or around equipment:
Forestry will attempt to knock on the customer's door or will leave a door hanger notifying the customer that we will remove the vegetation at no cost to them. The customer is advised they have 5 days to respond with any concerns. Calls regarding this matter should be directed to the Forestry Department.

Transformer leaks:
If you see a transformer leak, please contact APS immediately at (602) 371-7171 in the Phoenix area, or (800) 253-9405.

Pole Treatment:
Poles are inspected for decay. Inspections may also include digging around the base of the pole to treat and install a pole protection wrap, apply wood preservatives or metal truss devices. A three food radius is required around all poles.

Wildlife Protection:
APS is committed to providing customers with safe, reliable electric service while maintaining a healthy environment. Part of that commitment is the protection of wildlife throughout the state of Arizona. For more detailed information, please refer to Rep Direct under Wildlife Protection Program.

If you have further questions regarding these programs, please call (602) 371-7171 in the Phoenix area, or (800) 253-9408.
