I would like to heat our pool in the winter, but gas heaters are very expensive. Would it make sense to install a solar pool heater? And can you recommend a brand?
Most solar pool heaters are simply a series of black plastic tubes that absorb heat from the sun and transfer it to the water as it passes through. Many people put them on their roofs. That may not be practical with a tile roof, and many homeowner associations prohibit equipment on roofs. If you can't put it on the roof, finding a suitable location can be a challenge since these systems require a large flat space with good sun exposure.
APS has not evaluated solar pool heaters and cannot make a recommendation. You may want to do your initial research using the Internet, then call local pool companies for more detailed information.
