Building efficiency into your budget
Energy is the largest controllable operating expense for many businesses. As you plan your budget for next year, factor-in energy projects that will yield long-term savings to your organization. Take advantage of the many options APS offers for learning about and implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

Simple method and smart returns: Direct Install
The APS Solutions for Business program now offers an easier and more affordable approach for improving energy efficiency in small businesses and schools. The Direct Install approach brings efficiency right to you, the customer and requires minimal up-front investment. APS incentives cover up to 90 percent of the measure cost and your return on investment is typically less than one year. Trade Allies: Industry pros with incentive tools
APS Solutions for Business Trade Allies are contractors, engineers, energy service companies or architects who influence building and system design. Trade Allies have been educated on the program and have agreed to follow the program’s rules and processes and can help you find energy solutions that will positively impact your bottom line. You can search by service provided or download the entire list.

Measuring green buildings
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System is a measuring stick for cutting-edge, high-performance new construction or renovation projects. It is a voluntary green building certification program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The rating system awards points for performance in the following areas: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

LEED educational classes are offered by the USGBC and local educational service companies such as Green Ideas and a.k.a. Green.

The Certified Energy Manager (CEM) professional designation has become widely accepted as a standard for qualifying professionals in the energy management field. Lighten your load, lighten your budget
After heating and cooling, lighting typically consumes the most energy. Fortunately lighting is relatively easy to change and a good place to begin to reap easy savings.

• Replace any incandescent lights with ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent lights (CFLs). They use less energy, produce less heat and last longer.
• Maximize the use of natural light. Use window coverings that are easily operable. Blinds or shades that are difficult to open are less likely to be used.
• Install occupancy sensors, timers and photo sensors. Occupancy sensors can reduce lighting energy use up to 40 percent.

Get you maintenance calendar in sync
According to the Department of Energy, a well-crafted operations and maintenance (O&M) program and increased staff awareness can save from 5 to 20 percent on energy bills -- without a significant capital investment. Include cooling tune-ups, coil cleaning, filter changes, thermostat calibration and light fixture cleaning on your O&M calendar.

Consider solar savings
Once you've maximized your energy efficiency, consider installing solar panels to heat water or generate power. We offer a variety of incentives designed for business customers. Read more...
