APS Solutions for Business Program
IT Systems

Data centers support every sector of the economy and house the IT equipment used for data processing, data storage, and communications networking. Power consumption in data centers is growing rapidly, but can be controlled by improving energy efficiency of the IT and building equipment. And APS rebates can help.

Data Center case study

Consider the following strategies for reducing energy consumption related to IT equipment.

IT Equipment Strategies
Server virtualization: excess or redundant servers can be "virtualized" to save on physical space, power consumption and heat output ENERGY STAR® qualified servers: Standard computer servers can consume between 1,200 - 8,600 kWh annually. Companies that purchase ENERGY STAR qualified servers could save as much as $500 over a five-year lifetime for each server they install.

Computer power management (CPM): personal computers and monitors are one of the largest sources of plug-in load in commercial offices. CPM software allows IT personnel to remotely maintain and power off office computers. CPM is now a prescriptive incentive, offered at $8 per computer.

Building/Infrastructure Strategies
HVAC equipment: Install energy-efficient equipment; conduct Tune Up on existing equipment; add variable speed drives to air handlers.

Lighting: Install premium T8s with electronic ballasts; use occupancy controls and daylight sensors.
