APS Solutions for Business Program

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up for the program?
Complete and submit a program application. Pre-notification is required for retrofit projects with de-lamping and strongly encouraged for all projects.

After installing the qualified technology, complete, sign, and submit an application (check the box marked Final) with the appropriate documentation. We will send out incentive checks within 4 to 6 weeks of approval of complete applications. Final applications must be submitted within six months of project installation or will be ineligible for payment.

Is there a limit to the amount of incentive funding that I can receive?
APS Solutions for Business program will pay up to 75 percent of the incremental measure cost for prescriptive projects (up to 90 percent for Express Solutions) and 50 percent for custom projects. The program pays up to 50 percent of the cost of an energy study to $10,000 per study ($20,000 for retro-commissioning).

Customers with maximum monthly demand exceeding 100 kW can receive up to $300,000 per program year; customers 100 kW and below can receive $150,000 per program year.

Does the program cover new or existing projects?
The APS Solutions for Business program offers incentives for projects that involve retrofits, equipment replacement, new construction or major renovation. The program provides incentives for energy studies, such as energy feasibility studies and retro-commissioning for existing projects and design assistance and commissioning for major renovation and new construction.

What type of buildings or businesses can participate?
Most non-residential customers can participate in the APS Solutions for Business program. Buildings (or sites) on a residential rate schedule or one of the following non-residential rate schedules are not eligible to participate: Solar 1 and 2, some Special Contracts, and E36.

I own an apartment complex where the individual apartments are on residential meters, but the common areas are served by a commercial meter. Can I apply for an incentive for improvements in the common areas of my facility?
Yes. Common areas that are served by non-residential meters are eligible for an APS Solutions for Business incentive.

Which energy efficiency measures are covered under the incentive program?
The program offers incentives for lighting, cooling, refrigeration and motors measures for new construction, major renovation, equipment replacement and retrofit projects. If you have a measure that is not covered in the prescriptive rebates, you can apply for Custom incentives, which pay at $0.11 per annual kWh saved up to a maximum of 50 percent of the incremental measure cost.

The program also provides incentives for energy studies including design assistance, commissioning, feasibility studies and retro-commissioning. The APS Solutions for Business staff is available to help you calculate energy savings and determine your potential incentive amounts.

I am performing an energy saving retrofit at my facility that involves an improvement not listed on your website or in any of your documents, is it still eligible for an incentive?
Possibly. A project that demonstrates verifiable energy savings but is not covered under the prescriptive program may qualify for a Custom incentive. Please contact the APS Solutions for Business Team at (866) 277-5605 or e-mail to APS.solutionsforbusiness@kema.com for questions regarding specific measures.

Am I required to use a contractor for improvements at my facility?
No. Many customers use in-house staff to upgrade their facilities in-house. Just leave the contractor information blank on the application form. Please note that for self installed improvements any customer internal labor costs are not reimbursable through the APS Solutions for Business program.

Is there a list of qualified program contractors?
The APS Solutions for Business program does not recommend, qualify, or otherwise approve contractors or other service providers for participation. We do maintain a list of trade allies. The list provides company details and specialties for those who have attended a program introductory seminar.

If you are a trade ally (contractor, equipment vendor, ESCO) that would like to participate in the introductory seminars, please contact the APS Solutions for Business team at (866) 277-5605 or e-mail to APS.solutionsforbusiness@kema.com to locate a seminar in your area. Future seminars will be posted on the events page of the Web site.

Can the Customer incentive check be assigned to a third party (contractor, ESCO, corporation)? I am a Contractor that installed a lighting project for my customer and I submitted the incentive application on their behalf. Do I receive the incentive check or does the customer?
The customer, the contractor, or other third party, such as a corporate headquarters can receive the APS Solutions for Business incentive check. The customer designates who is to receive the incentive check on the Final Application. APS does require the customer’s signature on the Application to issue the check to the contractor or other third party.

How do I determine what energy saving measures are right for my facility?
One approach is to conduct an energy study to determine the specific energy-saving measures for a facility. The APS Solutions for Business program offers an incentive of up to 50 percent of the study cost, to $10,000 per study annually. For retro-commissioning, the maximum incentive is $20,000 per study.

APS Solutions for Business staff are available to help you calculate the potential energy savings and associated incentives for the proposed measures. An alternative is to contact a contractor or ESCO that can work with you to identify energy efficiency improvements. You can also review the business-specific fact sheets for general strategies and energy-saving information.

Can I get an incentive to perform a fuel switching measure?
No. Fuel-switching measures are excluded from the APS Solutions for Business program.

Can I receive an incentive for renewable energy projects?
Renewable projects such as solar water heaters or photovoltaic installations do not qualify under this program. However, incentives many be available through the APS Solar & Renewable Incentive program.

I plan on applying for an incentive for a new air conditioning unit, but the equipment will not be delivered for another 3 months. Is there any way that I can receive an extension on my fund reservation over the 120-day reservation period?
Probably. Extensions are granted on a case-by-case basis. Request an extension by contacting the APS Solutions for Business team at (866) 277-5605 or e-mail to APS.solutionsforbusiness@kema.com prior to expiration of the 120 day reservation or for specific questions regarding funding reservations.

What documentation is required for project Pre-Notification Applications to reserve funds?
The APS Solutions for Business Team can reserve funding after reviewing and verifying the customer information and incentive calculation pages. We strongly suggest reading and submitting all of the pages of the application. For custom applications, documentation on energy savings calculations is also required, per the specifications.

Once a project is completed, please submit the Final Application to the Project Team with the following documents within six months of the completion date.
