The building envelope is what separates conditioned space (inside) from unconditioned space (outside). It is the barrier through which heat can be transferred. Having an energy-efficient building envelope can significantly decrease energy costs.
In hot, dry climates like those in Arizona, the building envelope is the largest single factor in the net cooling load of the air-conditioning system for most commercial buildings.
APS Solutions for Business offers incentives on new high-performance windows and glass doors. New windows and glass doors can incorporate any combination of glazing, coating, internal film or gas filling to meet specified U-factor and solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC). A window’s U-factor refers to how well it resists heat transfer while the SHGC is the fraction of the heat from the sun that enters through it. The lower a window's U-factor and SHGC, the more efficient it is.
