APS Customers Who Register Online and Choose Paperless Billing in December will Help Those Less Fortunate
Money Donated to Project SHARE for Each Participating Customer

PHOENIX – The holidays are the time for giving. For many, this means finding ways to help those who struggle financially. During December, APS will donate $1 to Project SHARE for every customer who registers their account on aps.com and $1 for every customer who signs up for paperless billing.

The Salvation Army’s Project SHARE (Service to Help Arizonans with Relief on Energy) helps those who are unable to pay their energy bills due to a financial emergency. Started in 1982, Project SHARE is the longest continuously operating energy assistance program of its kind in the nation, and every cent donated is used to help recipients pay their energy bills.

In 2010, APS customers, employees and shareholders contributed more than $665,000 to Project SHARE. This was more than half of all money donated to the program in Arizona, according to the Salvation Army.

“By adding the donation to Project SHARE, we are giving customers another reason to register on aps.com and sign up for paperless billing,” said Tammy McLeod, APS Vice President and Chief Customer Officer. “Signing up is already good for the customer and the environment.”

By registering, customers can easily and securely pay their bills online, view a graph of their monthly energy use, review past bills or payments plus take advantage of numerous other features available on aps.com.

Paperless billing allows customers to:

• Receive e-mail notifications when their bill is ready to be viewed.
• Access PDF statements online and save or print if needed for record keeping purposes.
• Download all account and usage history.
• Reduce the possibility of mail fraud and identity theft.

APS uses about 382,000 pounds of paper in one year to print bills for those customers still receiving paper bills. If all went paperless, nearly 4,400 trees could be saved yearly. It also would eliminate 392 pounds of toxic air pollutants, 414,903 pounds of solid waste and 3.5 million gallons of wastewater annually.
