APS Urges Caution Near Electrical Equipment July 23, 2010 FLAGSTAFF - APS customers are urged to exercise extreme caution near electrical equipment in the wake of heavy rains and severe flooding this week. Weather forecasts are calling for more rain today. Flooded grounds may expose underground electrical equipment and can impact the stability of power poles. Anyone who encounters exposed electrical equipment or downed power lines is asked to stay clear of the lines, immediately call 911, then call APS. In addition, people should refrain from using electric appliances, tools or landscaping equipment where standing water is present. "A single contact with electricity can result in severe injury or even death," said Mike McElmury, APS Director of Energy Delivery for Northern Arizona. "We implore everyone to exercise extreme caution near electricity and to look out for their loved ones during these periods of inclement weather." More information on electrical safety can be found at aps.com. Any questions can be directed to APS at 800-253-9405 statewide. APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW) Contact: Cindy May, (928) 773-6416 Return to News Releases Index |
