APS Encourages Customers to 'Get Smart' and Switch to Paperless Billing
$1 Donated to Project SHARE for Every Customer Who Turns Off Paper Bill

July 1, 2010

PHOENIX - APS is encouraging customers to make a SMART start to their summer, by going online to aps.com and signing up for paperless billing. This action is just the first step in the 'Get SMART, Get online' process - a campaign APS is launching at aps.com/smart to help customers understand how using the website can help save energy and money on their electric bill.

Simply register at aps.com and go paperless.
 Manage your account online.
 Analyze your energy usage.
 Research ways to save.
 Track your results.

It's quick and easy to sign up for paperless bills. A promotional button on the aps.com home page sends customers to a "login and Go Paperless" option. The link also allows customers who are not yet managing their account on aps.com to easily register and "Go Paperless" at the same time.

Paperless billing allows customers to:

  • Receive e-mail notifications when their bill is ready to be viewed.
  • Access PDF statements online and save or print if needed for record keeping purposes.
  • Download all account and usage history.
  • Reduce the possibility of mail fraud and identity theft.

In addition, during the month of July, APS will donate $1 to Project SHARE (Service to Help Arizonans with Relief on Energy) for every new sign up for paperless billing - up to $10,000. Project SHARE assists customers experiencing financial hardships by helping to pay their electric bill. The Salvation Army selects the recipients and disburses the funds.  Last year, Project SHARE helped more than 7,000 families and disbursed more than $1.2 million, more than half of which was provided by APS employees, shareholders and customers.

APS uses approximately 455,000 pounds of paper in just one year to print bills for its 1.1 million customers. If all of these customers went paperless, more than 5,000 trees potentially could be saved a year. It also would eliminate 489 pounds of toxic air pollutants, 517,000 pounds of solid waste and 4 million gallons of wastewater annually.

APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electric utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation (NYSE: PNW).
