APS, Phoenix Mercury Team up for WNBA Green Week June 18, 2010 PHOENIX - The Phoenix Mercury team up with APS for the WNBA's Green Week as they take the floor this Sunday, June 20, in an eco-friendly matchup versus the Connecticut Sun. U.S. Airways Arena, home of the Phoenix Mercury, will be powered by renewable energy from APS. The Mercury purchased 60,000 kWh, enough to power the entire energy usage during the game - this is equivalent to the amount of energy needed to light more than 3,000 Arizona homes for a week. Throughout the night, green tips and video clips featuring green messages from Mercury players will appear on the scoreboard. The roster cards will be printed on recycled paper, and the basketball used during the game also will be made from recycled materials. Solar Man, the leader of the Renewables - an APS team of clean energy super heroes representing solar, wind, geothermal, hydro and bio-mass energy - will be in attendance to help pick a lucky section that will receive free Renewables t-shirts. For fans who are interested in learning more about green energy and energy efficiency, representatives from APS will be in attendance at an APS booth set up inside the arena. The booth will feature fun games for the whole family, including giveaways and activities. The Phoenix Mercury has been providing affordable and entertaining basketball in the Valley for 13 seasons. Lower-level tickets for the Mercury's matchup against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, June 20, are still available for as little as $10 and can be purchased at phoenixmercury.com or by calling (602) 252-WNBA. APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW). Contact: Jenna Henry |
