Dive into Energy Savings with New APS Rebate Program
Program Kickoff Includes Free BBQ, Chance to Win Free Pool Pump and Signed Steve Nash Basketball

May 11, 2010

PHOENIX - There is no better way to cool off during a sweltering Arizona summer than to dive into a backyard pool. Now, APS customers can swim and relax knowing they will be saving money by taking advantage of rebates on efficient pool pumps and seasonal timers that can shave up to 80 percent off pool energy costs.

Here in our desert climate, pools can be the second largest energy user in a home after air conditioning costs. The new APS Energy Efficient Pools Rebate Program offers valuable rebates up to $200 for replacing a single-speed pool pump with a new, efficient variable-speed, or dual-speed pump.

"The new pumps use less energy, are much quieter, and they keep the pool cleaner and last longer than single-speed pumps," said Tom Hines, APS Program Manager. "Variable speed pumps can typically reduce pool energy use by as much as 80 percent, and save homeowners $200 or more in annual energy costs."

APS customers also can receive a $75 rebate for a seasonal pool timer. Seasonal pool timers are great in Arizona - the timer automatically adjusts the run time of a pool pump to match seasonal needs. This annual run schedule can save up to $175 per year in pool energy costs, which means customers save money and energy without the added worry and hassle of monitoring and adjusting their pool pump operating hours throughout the year.

Want to learn more? Come to the APS pool pump program party and find out what you can do to make your pool more efficient:

  • When: 10 am - 2 pm, Saturday, May 15
  • Where: Shasta Pools and Spas, 6031 N. 16th Street, Phoenix

The event includes:

  • Demonstrations by experts on efficient pool pumps and timers.
  • Free Famous Dave's BBQ.
  • Fun giveaways.
  • Free drawing for a new variable-speed pool pump, courtesy of Pentair Water Pool and Spa.
  • Free drawing for a collectible, signed Steve Nash basketball.

To be eligible for pool pump or timer rebates, customers must take a copy of their APS bill to a participating retail store and present it at the time of purchase. For more information and a list of participating retailers, customers may call (800) 230-8904, visit www.aps.com/pools, or ask their pool specialist. This program is paid for by APS customers and approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission.

APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW).
