New APS Incentive Help Businesses Cut Cooling Costs
Prepare Your AC for the Long Hot Summer

April 13, 2010

PHOENIX - APS non-residential customers have a new opportunity to cut cooling costs this summer. The APS Solutions for Business program is now offering a 75 percent rebate (up to $240 per AC system) for an Advanced Diagnostic Tune Up. This service can improve the AC system performance and save up to 7 percent on cooling costs.

Just like a car, a building's air conditioning system works most efficiently and reliably when regularly maintained. Poorly-maintained equipment consumes more energy, costs more to operate and is prone to breakdown. The Advanced Diagnostic Tune Up can improve the system's current operating efficiency and identify potential repairs before it breaks.

A cooling system that is at least three years old and four tons or larger (package or split) is a good candidate for this service, according to Wayne Dobberpuhl, Program Manager.

The program offers additional rebates to repair malfunctioning economizers and test and repair duct systems.

"This is a great time to investigate these savings opportunities before the hot summer months," said Dobberpuhl. "Together with the tune up, these steps can cut your cooling costs by nearly one-fourth!"

Only those contractors listed as APS Solutions for Business program Trade Allies and certified by Air Conditioning Contractors of America-AZ as Professional Air Conditioning technicians are approved to perform the Advanced Diagnostic Tune Up. Customers can find an approved contractor online at www.aps.com/ACTuneup.

The APS Solutions for Business program offers rebates for a range of energy efficiency improvements from energy audits, lighting and refrigeration to demand response, HVAC and motors. APS has paid over $20 million in program incentives to more than 650 non-residential customers since the program started in 2006. These customers will save $345 million on their APS bills over the equipment's lifetime. In addition, the installed measures will reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the annual emissions from 338,000 cars and save 1.15 billion gallons of water.

The program is funded by APS customers and approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission.

APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW)
