APS Warns Customers to be Wary of Attempt to DefraudCall Authorities in Event of Misrepresentation February 12, 2010 APS warns its customers that it has received report of an individual falsely claiming to represent the company to attain a customer's credit card information. APS does not accept credit card payments, either in person or over the phone. Customers who wish to pay their account by credit card are directed to a third party. If there ever is a question about the validity of a person claiming to be an APS representative, customers are urged to ask for an employee identification number and to call the APS Customer Care Center at (602) 371-7171 or (800) 253-9405 outside the metro Phoenix area to verify employee status. A Prescott business owner recently reported receiving a telephone call at her place of business from a man claiming to represent APS. According to the customer, the caller said she was past due on her APS account and that without receiving payment, the customer's service would be disconnected. The customer responded by providing credit card information to keep the account current. Later, after contacting APS, the customer realized she had been the victim of fraud and called local police. If someone suspects they have been a victim of the fraud described above, APS urges them to contact the police and close the credit card account if that information was provided. APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electric utility, serves more than 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the largest subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation (NYSE:PNW). Contact: Damon Gross |
