APS Earns Three Industry Awards February 10, 2010 PHOENIX - Arizona Public Service has received three Leadership Awards for communications and technology innovation from industry trade publication The Energy Daily. APS won awards for Most Innovative Campaign for its announcement of the Solana Generating Station, as well as honorable mention in the same category for the marketing of its energy saving products and services, which feature Phoenix Suns star Steve Nash. In addition, APS received honorable mention for Most Innovative Technology for its Transformer Oil Analysis Notification system. TOAN remotely monitors major transformers and detects anomalies, helping to prevent catastrophic failures and saving the industry millions of dollars long-term. Solana, a 280-megawatt concentrating solar facility, will be the world's largest solar plant when it comes online in 2013. As the first major project to underscore APS's commitment to solar energy, it was announced to customers through an advertising campaign that provided an alternate and humorous view of Arizona's "always sunny" weather. The company's news conference also received international media attention. "Because we compete with our peers and are judged by the media, Energy Daily awards are among the toughest to win-and it is highly unusual to win three," said APS Vice President and Chief Customer Officer, Tammy McLeod. "Our employees find ways to keep APS at the forefront of the electric industry every day, and it's an honor to be publicly recognized." Published by Access Intelligence, The Energy Daily is the top daily publication among energy executives. It covers all aspects of the energy industry including electric utilities, nuclear power, natural gas, oil, coal and alternative fuels. APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW). Contact: Dan Wool |
