APS Program Helps Families Manage Budget

September 29, 2009

Today, taking some financial guesswork out of budgeting can go a long way. But the swing in Arizona temperatures from summer to winter, and the fluctuation of a customer's energy use for any number of other reasons, can also mean a swing in the amount of one monthly expense: the electric bill. The APS Equalizer program can help stabilize that cost.

"Equalizer is for the convenience and benefit of our customers, and participation in it is free," said Eileen Eisen, APS Senior Account Executive, Customer Information & Programs.

Equalizer averages a customer's energy usage into 12 equal payments, giving customers the opportunity to budget for a known, upcoming expense.

Importantly, Equalizer is designed to work with a customer's rate plan, not replace it. "The core focus in managing energy use and saving energy dollars lies in making sure our customers are on the rate best suited for them," said Eisen. "The Equalizer program evens out the bills for easier budgeting, no matter which rate plan a customer's on."

The monthly bill amount may be adjusted up or down throughout the year to reflect changes in the customer's energy use.

Fall enrollment for Equalizer is under way for eligible customers. Customers can find out what their monthly bills would be under Equalizer by visiting www.aps.com/equalizer or calling the APS Customer Care Center (602) 371-7171 in the Phoenix metro area or (800) 253-9405. Customers may cancel enrollment in Equalizer at any time.

APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the largest subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW).
