APS Kids: Enhanced Interactive Web Site Allows Young Minds to Learn 24/7

September 23, 2009

Kids are game for learning just about anything with their young minds and bodies active before, during and after school. APS Kids, an interactive, animated section of the APS Web site, facilitates learning all day, every day, offering a free channel for children's' natural curiosity at www.aps.com/kids.

"The language of energy fits into everyone's vocabulary, no matter their age and it's never too early to start learning it" said Donald Case, aps.com Web Manager. "This site is meant to develop and keep young minds engaged," said Case. "Here, they can 'learn and do' as they discover the world of electricity."

The Web site icons, Learn It, Do It and Save It help entice kids to take a peek behind the easy-to-understand explanations of various forms of energy. Kids can choose any number of activities - from science experiments to food recipes. For example, kids are called to draw a picture of how energy comes from one of its sources, and makes the journey to a home as electricity, while another shows how the sun's energy can take impurities out of water. And, two solar snack recipes beckon kids to make sun tea, and sun-warmed graham cracker, chocolate and marshmallow treats.

"In one form or another, energy will become an everyday part of our children's adult lives, so it's in our collective best interests that they become savvy about how it works and how to save it early on," said Case.

The APS Web site was recently ranked second among 100 utilities throughout the U.S. and Canada by E Source Customer Satisfaction Services. The site was noted for its ease of use and for providing valuable information on how to save energy.
