APS Character Education Poster ContestFocusing on the Six Pillars of Character and Energy Efficiency September 3, 2009 APS and the Arizona Character Education Foundation want to reward elementary and high school students for their ability to artistically demonstrate what they think it means to have good character and to use energy wisely. The APS Character Education Poster Contest allows students to design their own poster using energy conservation tips and the six pillars of character - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. "APS wants to demonstrate our support of education that develops the attitudes and behaviors of our future employees, citizens and community leaders," said Louise Moskowitz, Senior Community Development Associate for APS. "This contest challenges students to creatively express what shapes their good character." Open to all students, kindergarten through 12th grade, posters will be grouped and judged in four different categories - kindergarten through 2nd grade; 3rd through 5th grade; 6th through 8th grade; and 9th through 12th grade. A maximum of five posters can be submitted per grade level per school. The posters must be 8.5" by 11" and will be judged on character and energy efficiency messages, creativity and the overall universal appeal. Winners will be selected from each category and will each receive a gift certificate to a local bookstore: first place will receive $50, second will receive $25 and third will receive $15. "The poster contest is a great way to help Arizona students become more aware of energy efficiency, which is an important part of being a good citizen," said Tammy Linn, President of the Arizona Character Education Foundation. Posters should be packaged so they remain flat when sent in for judging. Entry forms are available online and must be signed by a parent or guardian and securely attached to the poster. Entries must be postmarked by October 16, 2009, and mailed to: For more information, schools are encouraged to contact Louise Moskowitz, Senior Consultant, Economic/Community Development at (602) 250-2291 or via email at Louise.Moskowitz@aps.com.
