APS Crews Make Progress on Storm Repairs
Company Distributes Dry Ice in Harquahala

July 22, 2009

PHOENIX - Despite another storm that hit the area Tuesday night, APS crews made significant progress in their efforts to restore service to western Maricopa County customers impacted by a series of storms early this week.

As of 6 a.m. this morning, power had been restored to all but about 60 residential customers in the Harquahala Valley area. APS crews from around the state have worked around the clock, and the company expects the remaining customers to have service sometime today.

In the meantime, the Harquahala Fire District Headquarters, 51501 W. Tonto, has been established as a cooling station for area residents. In addition, APS employees are distributing dry ice to area customers at this location.

Severe monsoon storms hit areas west of the Valley on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings. Winds reaching reported speeds of 100 mph toppled as many as 200 power poles in the areas of Gila Bend, Ajo, Dateland and Harquahala. In all, APS has provided 50,000 pounds of dry ice to customers affected by the outages.

The company is coordinating with Maricopa County Emergency Management for water supplies and with county and local officials to coordinate other relief efforts.

APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves more than 1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the largest subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp.
