APS Hosting Workshop to Help Cities and Towns Obtain 'Stimulus' Funds for Energy Efficiency Projects

April 28, 2009

WHAT:  Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) will host an all-day workshop on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to help cities, towns, counties and Tribal entities maximize funding available for energy efficiency projects in public and private buildings.

WHEN:  7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 6

WHERE: Black Canyon Conference Center, 9440 N. 25th Ave. Phoenix, 85021  (Just off I-17 & 25th Ave., between Dunlap and Peoriaavenues)  Phone: 602-944-0569

WHY:  Energy Efficiency Community Block Grant (EECBG) funds are available to local governments through the ARRA. The funds will provide a wealth of opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects that can cut energy costs, reduce emissions and help spark economic activity in cities and towns across Arizona.

But, to obtain the “stimulus” funds, projects must first be defined, tracking and reporting requirements must be identified, and timelines for the funds must be met. This free workshop targets city, town and county managers, facility managers and grant writers. It will offer practical tools and information for planning and implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in their communities. The workshop will include presentations on:

  • The energy efficiency ‘stimulus’ funds
  • Leveraging federal funds with existing APS program funding
  • Preparing EECBG grant applications
  • Project costs/results, calculating emissions avoided and jobs created
  • Identifying and prioritizing energy projects

WHO: Page Gonzales, local government policy advisor, Office of the Governor; Ed Fox, vice president and chief sustainability officer, APS; Jim Arwood, director, Arizona Energy Office; and more than 200 attendees from cities, towns, counties, and Tribal governments across Arizona.
