Phoenix, AZ - WHAT: APS’ annual Clown College
Volunteers from across Arizona will come and learn about the history and art of clowning. They will learn how to act like a clown including stage presence, pantomime and magic. Students will then create their own characters and practice putting on clown make-up. The day will end with a traditional graduation ceremony including mortar boards, diplomas, white face paint, red noses and floppy shoes. The media is invited to attend, and even participate.
WHEN: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2008
WHERE: APS Corporate Headquarters, Arizona Center Tower 2 400 N. 5th Street, Phoenix
WHY: The class develops new clowns for The APS Volunteer Clown Troupe. The APS Volunteer Clown Troupe consists of more than 125 employees and family members who participate in community service activities throughout Arizona and northwest New Mexico.
History of the APS Volunteer Clown Troupe
APS employees, in 1989, saw clowning as an opportunity to entertain at special events for the elderly, disabled, disadvantaged, children, hospitals and non-profit organizations. The APS Volunteer Clown Troupe entertains thousands each year and is best known in the Valley for its performances in the APS Fiesta of Light, Fiesta Bowl and Parada Del Sol parades.
