APS to Host Energy Star National Lighting Conference; 250-300 Lighting Experts to Converge in Phoenix February 22, 2008 Phoenix, AZ - Arizona Public Service Company (APS) is hosting the 2008 ENERGY STAR® Lighting Partner conference, February 25-27 in Phoenix where 250 - 300 attendees from manufacturing, retail, utility and government will converge at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, 7677 N. 16th Street, Phoenix. The conference begins each day at 8 a.m. In recognition of the success with its ENERGY STAR lighting program, APS was selected as one of last year's ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award winners and was asked to host this year's Lighting Partner meeting. The purpose of the conference is to:
Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, a strong advocate of energy efficiency, will deliver the keynote address at the conference at approximately 9:15 a.m., Monday, February 25. "The question of climate change is beyond debate. Our obligation now is to find new and effective ways to be smart about our stewardship of this planet. Energy-efficient products play a big role. In city buildings we have replaced nearly all our old light bulbs with energy-efficient lights, and last fall we partnered with APS and the EPA/DOE on the ENERGY STAR Change A Light campaign to promote compact florescent light bulbs," said Gordon. "I thank and commend APS for the leadership role it is taking in identifying ways we can all help." ENERGY STAR is a national symbol of energy efficiency, making it easy for consumers and businesses to identify high-quality, energy-efficient products. And while 40,000 different products have earned the mark for superior energy efficiency, lighting plays a special role as ENERGY STAR partner organizations help Americans understand the link between energy use and the environment. Kathleen Hogan, director, EPA Climate Protection Partnerships Division, said "ENERGY STAR partners like Arizona Public Service are helping address global climate change. Their ENERGY STAR lighting promotions are engaging people to be part of the solution by starting with energy-saving steps at home as simple as changing a light to ENERGY STAR."
And because of this, APS is increasingly recognized as a national leader with its CFL program and other energy efficiency programs. Today, the APS discounted CFLs are available at more than 300 retail locations statewide and neither coupons or mail-in rebates are required. Tom Hines, APS residential lighting program manager said APS will continue to expand the program in 2008, adding additional types of lighting and retail locations that will carry the discounted bulbs. The program is funded by APS customers and approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission. For more information on APS' CFL program, customers may log onto aps.com. Established in 1992, ENERGY STAR is a joint program between the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy designed to save money and help address climate change through energy-efficient products and practices at home and at work.
