Arizona Utilities are Founding Reporters of The Climate Registry January 15, 2008 Phoenix, AZ - Arizona-based utilities, Arizona Public Service (APS) and Salt River Project (SRP), have become Founding Reporters of The Climate Registry. “APS and SRP have demonstrated exemplary environmental leadership by stepping forward to support The Climate Registry in its preliminary stages. We are deeply grateful for their integral support in helping to address the challenge of climate change,” said Gina McCarthy, Chair of The Climate Registry. Forerunners in the electric utility industry, APS and SRP have demonstrated environmental stewardship on several fronts by voluntarily committing to measure, independently verify, and publicly report their GHG’s on an annual basis utilizing The Climate Registry General Reporting Protocol. The protocol is based on the internationally recognized GHG measurement standards of the World Resources Institute and World Business Council on Sustainability. In addition, APS and SRP are both involved in examining technologies to control CO2 emissions from fossil fuel power plants. The two utilities are also collaborating in the WESTCARB Arizona Utilities CO2 Storage Pilot project. This project is taking place at the APS Cholla Power plant and is to examine the feasibility of storing carbon dioxide underground as a way to manage greenhouse gas emissions. “SRP is committed to implementing a portfolio of balanced solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over time, which includes accurately measuring and reporting our greenhouse gases consistent with nationally recognized protocols,” said Richard Hayslip, SRP’s Associate General Manager. “APS’ membership in The Climate Registry is a tangible action toward creating a sustainable future for our society. We must address global warming by tracking emissions and reducing them in a cost effective manner,” said Ed Fox, APS’ Vice President and Chief Sustainable Officer. Entities that join before May, 2008 are eligible to receive Founding Reporter status. SRP is the largest provider of power to the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, serving more than 925,000 electricity customers. For more information, visit www.srpnet.com. APS, Arizona’s largest and longest-serving electricity utility, serves about 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state’s 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the largest subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. (NYSE: PNW) About The Climate Registry
