      Biogas & Biomass

The Arizona Corporation Commission recently approved several funding and program changes to the 2012 APS Renewable Energy Incentive Program. Changes to the 2012 program along with updated forms and processes will be posted on this site by the end of January. Please note that we are not able to accept incentive applications for the 2012 program on 2011 forms.

Biomass and biogas are not new to the U.S. In fact, they make up some of the most utilized renewable resources. Each year 60 million tons of biomass material is used to produce approximately 37 billion kWh of electricity in an environmentally friendly way. It is also one of our most readily available renewable resources in Arizona.

Only systems installed within APS territory are eligible for these incentives.

What is Biomass and Biogas energy?
Biomass is made up of material such as trees, plants and agricultural crops. It is a renewable resource that can either be used as a solid fuel or changed into a liquid or gas to be used in the production of electricity or heat.

Will Biomass and Biogas work for me?
For more detailed information on how wind energy works and guidance to see if biomass or biogas energy makes sense for you, see the U.S. Department of Energy’s report, A Geographic Perspective on the Current Biomass Resource Availability in the U.S.
