The energy we receive from the sun comes to us in the form of heat and light. The sun's heat, or "thermal" energy, can be used to provide heat for your facility or for industrial processes used in your business. Solar process/heat systems are scalable so they can be sized to meet your particular needs whether large or small. Your current heating system can be used as a back-up for those times when all of the heat from your solar system has been used up.
What's more, along with reducing the amount of energy you use from APS, a well designed system may also be able to lower your peak energy usage and related demand charges further reducing your energy costs.
How the systems work:
Even though the savings from solar heating can be significant, the basics of the technology are fairly simple.
- A solar collector (typically made up of evacuated tubes or parabolic troughs) absorbs the sun's thermal energy and warms air or heats a fluid that stores the heat until it can be used later as needed.
- A fan or pump moves the collected heat or warm air directly to areas where required.
- You current heating system is used as a back-up as needed.
Getting Started:
APS incentives for Solar Process & Space Heating can be paid as a Production Based Incentive (PBI) based on the actual production of your system or as an Up-Front Incentive (UFI) based on the estimated energy usage the system will displace.
Your installer can help you through the incentive process but you should familiarize yourself with the equipment qualifications and installation guidance documents for a PBI or UFI.
Apply for an incentive:
