APS Residential AC Rebate Program

The APS Residential Air Conditioner (AC) Rebate Program* offers rebates to APS residential customers who replace their existing heat pump or AC unit with a new high-efficiency system.

Purchasing and installing a new high-efficiency AC or heat pump through the APS Residential AC Rebate Program is a great way to make your home more energy efficient in a cost-effective manner. To ensure your AC purchase qualifies for this rebate, it is important you take the following steps:

1) Ensure your AC unit meets the minimum SEER and EER efficiency levels listed in the chart below. (Some restrictions apply. See program requirements.)

**Please note that units must meet both the SEER and EER efficiency levels in order to qualify for a rebate. Some restrictions apply. See program requirements.

2) Make sure your unit is installed by an APS Rebate Eligible Contractor in accordance with APS' Quality Installation standards. APS Rebate Eligible Contractors include those who have the APS Qualified Contractor designation as well as others who have met APS' quality installation standards (see below). After choosing an APS Rebate Eligible Contractor, ask for a Quality Installation of your new equipment to ensure it provides the performance, comfort and energy savings you expect.

3) Have your contractor help you fill out the rebate application and send it to us. We have provided application tips and program requirements to help you with the application. If you want to verify that the your considering qualifies for the rebates just get the equipment's model numbers. Once you have the model numbers, call our AC Experts at (800) 305-0182 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Our experts will tell you if the equipment qualifies for the rebate program.

The APS Rebate Eligible Contractor List includes all of the contractors that can offer the APS AC Rebates.  It lists their name, phone number, the area they serve and if they have the APS Qualified Contractor designation. Free referrals to an APS Qualified Contractor are available onlineby e-mail or by calling (602) 371-3636 or (888) 890-9730 outside metro-Phoenix.

APS Quality Installation Standards:

  • Sizing Calculation -- A sizing calculation (Manual J) ensures your equipment is the right size for you home. Bigger isn't always better. Studies show that over half of home heat pumps and AC units are oversized - often by as much as 60 to 80 percent.  Smaller units generally have a lower purchase price. Oversized cooling units often don't run long enough to reach their rated efficiency level and turn on and off more frequently which can lead to higher maintenance costs.

  • Airflow and Refrigeration Charge Check -- Ensuring the equipment is installed with the proper airflow and refrigeration charge will save you money. Improperly installed AC systems waste energy. An analysis of 75,000 field tests revealed that over 75 percent of installed cooling equipment fails to meet manufacturer specifications for airflow and refrigerant charge.

Benefits of purchasing a new high efficiency AC system with a Quality Installation:

  • Save money on your energy bills -- New electric heat pumps and AC units are 40 to 50 percent more efficient than units installed 15 years ago.

  • Peace and quiet -- Today's AC equipment is typically quieter than older units.

  • Home resale value -- A new high efficiency AC unit can help improve the resale value of your home.

  • Benefits to the environment -- Saving energy helps to preserve our natural resources and reduces pollution.

  • Increase your comfort -- A properly sized and installed unit offers better humidity and temperature control in your home which increases your comfort.

*The Residential AC Rebate program is funded by APS customers and is approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission.
