2011-2015 Renewable Energy Standard Implementation Plan

The Arizona Renewable Energy Standard, established in 2007, requires APS to annually file an Implementation Plan describing the Company’s approach and budget for adding renewable energy resources during the next five calendar years.

On July 1, 2010, APS filed its 2011-2015 Renewable Energy Standard Implementation Plan with the Arizona Corporation Commission. The programs and budgets described in the Plan are subject to ACC approval and will be reviewed and authorized prior to the January 1, 2011 effective date of the Plan.

On October 13, 2010, APS submitted a Revised 2011 Renewable Energy Standard (RES) Implementation Plan. The Revised Plan modifies portions of the originally submitted plan, taking into account rulings made by the ACC between July 1 and October 13 as well as other changes including new contracts for biomass, wind and solar projects.

APS not only anticipates exceeding compliance with the Renewable Energy Standard requirements each of the next five years but also plans on exceeding the renewable energy/savings requirement of the approved Settlement Agreement.1

1Beyond Compliance -- In December 2009, the Arizona Corporation Commission approved a Settlement Agreement between APS and numerous stakeholders. The Settlement Agreement required, among other provisions, that “APS shall make its best efforts to acquire new renewable energy resources (above existing commitments as of 2008) with annual generation or savings of 1,700,000 MWh to be in-service by December 31, 2015.”
