APS Pool Pump & Seasonal Timer Rebates
FAQ Testimonials

FAQ

How can I save money by upgrading my pool pump?
Today's pool filtration pumps are available with motors that have a variety of speeds. These types of pumps give you the option of pumping water at very low speeds to conserve energy or higher speeds to clean your pool quickly. Remember, the faster you filter your pool the more energy you will use. Filter slowly and for a longer period per day and you can save up to 80% on your pool energy costs.

Why does slowing the water down save pumping costs?
When using the low speed mode of the two or variable-speed pumps, the water moves slower and thereby reduces the friction in the system piping. Reduced friction decreases the system backpressure and as a result the pump motor works less. A motor working less uses less energy. That's because it only takes a small amount of energy to keep water moving in a pool after the pump has been started.

I’ve heard there are new pool pump regulations. What are they?
The Arizona Legislature recently passed Title 44 that requires new efficiency standards for residential pool pumps, pool pump motors and portable electric spas, that goes into effect on January 1, 2012.

What does this mean for pool owners? While it does not affect any pump currently installed on an in-ground residential pool, any newly installed pumps that are one horsepower or greater will be required to meet the new energy-efficiency standards beginning January 1, 2012. Dual-speed pumps will be the minimum efficiency for pool pump installations, and inefficient single-speed pumps will no longer be sold.

Who is eligible to receive these rebates?
Only residential customers in the APS service territory are eligible to receive these rebates. Pool pumps and/or timers must be installed on a single family residential in-ground swimming pool and used for filtration purposes.

.....................................................................................................................................................

Are commercial customers (businesses) eligible to receive these discounts?
No. This program is for residential customers only. Learn more about the Solutions for Business program that offers energy efficiency incentives for APS business customers.

.....................................................................................................................................................

Do I have to mail in a rebate application to receive my rebate?
No, this is an instant rebate at the time of purchase. If you are a service professional, retailer, distributor or builder you will need to submit a rebate form.

.....................................................................................................................................................

All newly manufactured variable-speed pool pumps are eligible for a rebate. Two-speed pumps must have a timer or control board that is capable of switching motor speeds automatically.

.....................................................................................................................................................

Is there a limit on how many pool pump rebates I can receive?
Yes, one pool pump and/or timer rebate is available per household.

.....................................................................................................................................................

What is a Seasonal Setback Timer?
A digital seasonal pool pump timer reduces energy costs by up to 25% by automatically adjusting pool filter run-time to meet the seasonal requirements of your pool.

.....................................................................................................................................................

Do TightWatt® digital pool timers qualify for APS Rebates under the "Seasonal Timers" program?
Yes. Both TightWatt and TightWatt2 models qualify for the $75 rebate.

.....................................................................................................................................................

If I purchase a seasonal set-back timer, exactly how will my pool run during different times of the year?
Use the "Energy Savings Calculator" at www.tightwatt.com to see your seasonal run schedule, and also to determine savings.

.....................................................................................................................................................

Will a TightWatt® timer install into my existing outdoor electrical enclosure?
TightWatt(R) timers will snap into most common enclosures, reducing installation time and the expense of buying a new enclosure. Installation typically takes less than 10 minutes depending on existing timer.

.....................................................................................................................................................

How does a seasonal timer save money?
A seasonal timer saves money by running your pool pump only as much as necessary. You simply enter how long to run in the summer, and how long to run in the winter. The seasonal timer then creates a year-round, intelligent run schedule based on these two values. Selectable "manual run" times also provide more accurate control for "manual run" cycles.

.....................................................................................................................................................

Is a seasonal timer required to be eligible for a rebate on a two-speed pump?
No. The seasonal timer is an option for single-speed and two-speed pumps that simply turns the power to your pump on and off based on the seasonal needs of your pool. However, a control panel that has the capability of switching motor speeds automatically is required for all two-speed pumps. Control panels can work in conjunction with seasonal timers or often have a built in timer mechanism themselves.

.....................................................................................................................................................

What types of pool timers are eligible for the rebate?
Currently, only the Tightwatt® timers for single or dual speed pumps are eligible for this rebate.

.....................................................................................................................................................

Are Self Installations eligible for a rebate?
Yes, as long as you buy it from a participating distributor/retailer/installer and install it at a residence in APS Territory.
