What are the requirements/conditions for participating?
You must be a current APS customer. You must own the refrigerator/freezer. The refrigerator/freezer needs to be in working condition (maintain a cold temperature), plugged in the night before and empty. The unit must be a standard size measuring between 10 - 30 cubic feet in size. (We do not accept dorm sized units or commercial appliances.) There must be a clear pathway established for removal. A maximum of two appliances per household per year are eligible.  Someone 18 years or older must be present to sign and release the unit.

How do I schedule a free pickup?
Call (877) 514-6654 to speak directly to a customer service representative, or you can use our online scheduling system to select a time that is convenient for you. With either method you will receive a reminder call or e-mail prior to your scheduled pickup time.

Why is APS offering this program?
This program helps customers save money by eliminating older, less energy efficient refrigerators/freezers. It also helps the environment by reducing energy consumption, which reduces the need for more power plants. You also help the environment by recycling these units so that they do not end up in a landfill or the resale market.  And, since the recycling plant is located in Phoenix, this program provides several local "green" jobs.

How much of the refrigerator/freezer is recycled?
Approximately 95% of the refrigerator/freezer is recycled at a facility located in Phoenix. The recycled products are separated into plastics, metals and glass which are used to manufacture items such as concrete, computers and cell phones.

How does this benefit the environment?
The recycling process adheres to strict guidelines from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, safely disposing toxins and ozone-destroying chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). The process recycles all of the plastic, metals and glass reducing waste in our landfills.

How many units can I recycle?
The maximum number of refrigerators/freezers that can be recycled are two per household per year.

Why are non-working refrigerators not eligible for this program?
The goal of this program is to help our customers save money by eliminating older, less energy efficient refrigerators/freezers. The program also helps the environment by reducing energy consumption, which reduces the need for more power plants. Non-working refrigerators do not contribute to energy usage and recycling them does not contribute to our energy reduction goal.

How soon will I receive my rebate?
Rebate checks will be processed as quickly as possible, however please allow four to six weeks in order to receive your rebate.
