APS Foundation - STEM Grants

Since 1981, the APS Foundation has invested more than $30 million to improve the lives of Arizonans. In an effort to make a deeper impact in the communities we serve, the APS Foundation has launched a new focus to advance knowledge and support in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education.

The APS Foundation is committed to advancing STEM education in the state of Arizona by supporting a wide range of educational initiatives targeting both students and teachers. We believe that the support of STEM is necessary to provide the next generation of our state’s workforce with the skills and resources they will need to keep Arizona workers strong and competitive.

When considering the APS Foundation as a potential funding source, please note the following:

  • The APS Foundation considers requests from registered 501(c)(3) public charities, specifically those organizations that are in good financial and public standing.
  • The APS Foundation engages in grantmaking that supports Arizona’s youth and educational leaders focused on both K-12 students and college/university partnerships.

For general STEM funding requests, we support projects and programs that address the critical issues in STEM through one or more of the following criteria:

  • Address the educational needs in the state of Arizona within the STEM subject areas
  • Introduce a course of study and/or career path within the STEM subject areas
  • Enhance student achievement and align with the state of Arizona’s academic standards
  • Provide teachers with the training and support they need
  • Recruit and retain qualified teachers
  • Provide programming to rural communities
  • Leverage the organization’s ability to grow sustainable programs with large scale reach and measurable impact

Special consideration will be given to programs that focus on underrepresented minorities and/or girls programming.

Applications for Foundation grants are due March 1 and September 1 of each year.

Enhancing Support to Teachers

In order to deepen our commitment to STEM, the Foundation has identified enhancing support to STEM teachers as our new signature initiative. Teachers are often credited as the single most important factor in the K-12 educational system and oftentimes are not equipped with the skills or resources they need to successfully teach STEM subjects. The APS Foundation aims to support teachers by developing content knowledge in the STEM subjects as well as strong pedagogical skills so they are equipped to best enhance student achievement in these subjects.

For the signature initiative, APS will be inviting select organizations to apply for funding to deliver targeted programs to support STEM educators.
